No crazy speed throws, just nice, technique oriented throws. Anyway, I was the uke and my partner gave me a gentle hip toss and instead of doing the correct breakfall and smacking my hand on the mat, for some reason I fell on my hand and bruised the hell out of my thigh.

Of course my instructor was standing right there and said don't fall ON YOUR OWN HAND. In my head I said DUH, but of course I said out loud "Yes Coach".

I can't believe how much a freakin bruise hurts. Nothing like a dumb day in BJJ in front of your coach to make you feel stupid. What I have found useful is to look at what works for me to end the karmic entanglement - at least on my side. What can I do to cut myself free? Because often my anger and hurt ends being meaning that I'm still focusing on the person, and still connected to them... and really, fuck that. What I'm aiming for is not a state where I'm okay with what they did, or well inclined towards them... but more neutral. No gaping wounds, but nicely scarred over. They may be some asshole from my past, but I don't really give a shit now. No huge emotional charge. Just one more memory. (And maybe I'll get to the point where I don't need to append asshole to their memory, either, but one thing at a time.)

If there's any forgiving, it's usually forgiving myself for not steering clear of whatever mess it was. Sometimes an honest post-mortem helps - okay, this is what I wanted from them, this is what I expected from them, this is why I was so devastated when they did the thing. (And sometimes part of that is allowing that yeah, they were a tool, but I was also not in the best place.) Sometimes it's more just letting it sitting quietly and waiting for time to help it scab over a bit.

The hard ones are the ones where it's not over. The ex I dating when I was twenty who is still a ticking time bomb. The ex that owes me a really large amount of money and mostly seems to want to play games about it. Ugh. Can't quite end the entanglement in those cases (though I try to avoid the first one). Set it all on fire starts looking really good.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2553503767150998905.post-36876242780862400802016-02-17T03:35:23.415-08:002016-02-17T03:35:23.415-08:00I like the side control sit up escape. I'm not great at it, but when I hit it, it almost feels effortless (which is how a lot of BJJ is supposed to work, but usually doesn't for me as a floundering white belt).

I hear you on the weight frustration. I was doing great on about 1 to 1.5 pound loss a week until I get a sinus infection 2 weeks ago. I've been eating my way through the sickness and now feel like I've reversed the last 2 months of hard work.

Great blog! I assume that you take your left hand (which would normally be making a frame against their neck), and wrap it around the back of their neck and grab their far left arm pit? Then you scoot to you right (into them essentially), and they react by scooting their legs closer to your head, correct? Then you use your right hand to go over the back of their left leg and grab their right leg, bridge and sweep them over towards your left side, correct? Sounds interesting. It sounds like you're getting close to handing them the crucifix when you thread your right hand under their legs. But maybe I mis-read the whole technique!

Anyway - I'm always goofing something up when the Proff walks by, LOL! On Sunday I listened to loud punk music all day and ate too much junk food. It felt really good to get out of the house and get the blues out of my head.

Sometimes it's good to just go out and do something fun, something out of the ordinary. Do something that isn't work, isn't training, etc. Blow off some steam and have some freaking fun!
